A doula is never there to take the place of your spouse or partner. Instead, they can greatly enhance support, increase your connection with your partner, and overall complement a birth experience.
Often partners want to help but aren’t sure how to best support their birthing partner. I will help your partner support you in whatever way you want and need. I can help guide them to physically support you during labor, or I can take on that role so that they can solely focus on supporting you mentally and emotionally. Having a doula allows your partner to participate emotionally without them having to remember everything.
-
A doula provides non-medical support and works as a dedicated support person to the birthing family. Midwives and OB’s serve as healthcare providers and deliver babies,

A common misconception is that doulas are only helpful with unmedicated births. However, most women will labor unmedicated before they can even receive an epidural.
A doula can help with comfort during early labor either at home or your birth place. After an epidural, a doula can suggest position changes to help a mother move as much as possible, which helps labor progress with less medical interventions. A doula can offer relaxation skills, and provide informational support to make sure you are informed and your medical staff knows your goals and preferences.
There are also emotional aspects of labor and birth that many times are not addressed by health care professionals and are so important to ensure a positive birthing experience.

I offer payment plans, and consider all offers for partial/full trades. I have had clients find very creative ways to find the funds for a doula. I believe every woman is entitled to the support they need, and am willing to make accommodations based on certain financial circumstances.
Also, statistics show that having a doula present at birth significantly reduces interventions. Without a doula, you are more likely to pay for the cost of interventions, a c-section, formula, or more.

I service Cache, Box Elder, Weber, Morgan, Davis, and Salt Lake County. I have sometimes traveled further or used virtual support for clients outside of these areas, and am happy to chat about those options!

I only take a few clients per month and I always have a backup doula on stand-by in case something unexpected happens and I can't attend your entire birth.
-
As soon as you want to! Some clients like to have everything planned and reach out as soon as they find out they’re pregnant, while others have waited until a few weeks before their due date. I limit the number of births I attend each month, so the sooner you reach out, the higher the likelihood is I’ll have an opening!

Usually doula services are eligible for reimbursement with flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), and health reimbursement accounts (HRA) with a letter of medical necessity from your provider. Check your account details to make sure!

I will still strive to be there for it! In the unlikely scenario that I cannot attend your premature birth, I will send my backup doula until I can arrive. I haven’t ever had to use my backup, but I always want a safety net for my clients.
